The Re-Animator combines two of my favorite horror staples, the walking dead and H.P. Lovecraft. It’s based on the story “Herbert West: Reanimator” and it was directed by Stuart Gordon.
I would love to tell you that this is is a love story, but it really, really isn’t.
Herbert West is a scientist who was kicked out of Zurich’s University Institute of Medicine. Not one to give up on his dream of reanimated the dead, he transfers to Miskatonic University in New England to begin anew. What follows is a rather fantastic series of killings and reanimations, proving once again that it is a very bad idea to try to bring people back from the dead.
Is this a great film? That’s arguable but I will say that it does have a headless Zombie (er, Zombie head) in it. That alone should make it worth the price of admission.
Pro-tip – European doctors who like to work in secret labs are almost always up to no good.
