We ended the Ira Glass cycle near the beginning of this story, mostly because I figured three or four videos was enough, even from a fantastic storyteller like Ira. How do I explain the title then? Well, a podcast isn’t a video now is it?
This American Life, if you don’t know, is an NPR program that tells the stories of average people in extraordinary circumstances. They aren’t always hero stories, but in every case they give you a look at interesting people doing interesting things.
The This American Life crew has a way of making even uninteresting information seem profound, and by listening to an episode and learning from their style, you almost can’t help picking up a few new tricks you could use in your stories.
