What would you say if I asked you to come up with 10 different uses for a brick? Chances are that by number 8 you would be struggling, if only a little, and by the time you got to ten you would be glad that you didn’t have to come up with more.
Now, what if I asked you to come up with 93 uses for a brick? After the initial shock, I’d say you would do a better job. It wouldn’t be until 20, 30 maybe even 40 that struggling started to set in. More ideas would come to you because you know how much farther away the finish line is.
Creativity is like that. If we only force ourselves to come up with one or two ideas, we limit ourselves to the “lazy” solution. The art of storytelling and any other creative exercise is to go beyond this limit and force your mind to draw on its deep well of experience to create something entirely new.
“Make Stuff Up” and be willing to make a lot of stuff up to boot.
Here’s your challenge for today. In the comments, come up with 5 uses for a brick. Make sure that your uses don’t match any that are already listed there.
Let me help you out, I left you with one in the video.
