The show was created by Chioke Nassor and Tavon Bolourchi, and somewhere along the way they roped Kris into their shenanigans.
Style 3.5

The episodes come in a little short, especially when the concepts behind them have so much potential. If only they extended them to be a minute or two longer, this would be an absolute must-see. (Pacing 3)

Storytelling 4

Polish 4

If the title didn’t give it away, Titsburg is absolutely NSFW. It’s funny though, really funny and might be worth getting into a little trouble to see. Actually scratch that, the fact is that depending on which episode you’re watching that “trouble” might be immediately getting fired and slapped with a sexual harassment suit. Viewer discretion is advised. (Watchability 3.5)

Novelty 4.5

Even if you aren’t married (and maybe especially if you aren’t) you’ll find something to laugh at here.

Real Life With Married People is a series of very short web videos about a couch, and the two people who sit on it a lot.

The two people are married to each other, and if you happen to be married, in a relationship, or at least familiar with the general concepts, you just might find their exploits hilarious mildly amusing depressingly relatable.

People who enjoy describing things by comparing things to other things describe Real Life With Married People as “Mad About You meets Beavis and Butthead.” Not literally, of course, though such a crossover would be hilarious to watch for the obvious tension between co-stars Helen Hunt and Butthead, who are now divorced.

Ratings

No sets, no scenes no problems. Each episode is shot with the married couple sitting on or around the couch. Normally, this might get stale after a while but in this case it adds to the overall understated nature of the humor. We’re left feeling that their life is the same, humdrum back and forth day in and day out punctuated by the clever little scenes that we see every episode. (Style 3.5)

Storytelling 3.5

Polish 4

Some of these come in at under 1 minute but it’s so tightly scripted that I never felt short changed. The actors really own their parts. This show is also incredibly easy to watch, and you’ll find yourself burning through the snappy episodes in no time. (Watchability 5)

Saying more than that would just ruin the experience. Do yourself a favor and watch an episode or two.

I always wanted to voice an animated show and use all the crazy voices in my head, so I created “It’s a Sperm’s World.”

Armed with Adobe After Effects and a boat load of Lynda.com training videos, I proceeded to learn how to animate (professional animators: your joke here) my show.

Originally, I tried to voice both Gary and Skippy. I got out my microphone and my multiple personalities and started recording. I listened back and low and behold… it was terrible. Something was missing. More than just my sanity.

I had always had great comedic rapport with my good friend, Shane Blades, and thought he would be an excellent addition to the show. With nothing better to do, he said, “Yes.” The rest is history.

It’s a show about…well, ok, before I start, when was the last time you saw an animated sitcom about a sperm named Skippy? Every other part of this show is so overshadowed by its concept that it’s not really worth talking about. It is funny. It is easy to watch episode to episode but the most important part by far is that it is about sperm. Give it a shot, if only because then you’ll be able to say you’ve seen everything the Internet has to offer. (Novelty 5)

Also, the profound amount of work he puts into these sketches should be an inspiration to independent filmmakers everywhere.

Put simply, this is the concept: create fifty unique characters in fifty weeks. Each week, I upload a video of said character. That’s pretty much it. It is intentionally being left extremely open-ended, so there are very few rules (I’m not a big fan of rules). That’s half of the project. The other half is I’ll be blogging about my process (how I create each character, how I’m managing with this project, etc), to shed some light into an actor’s process (which most people don’t know a whole lot about, I think). A video may consist of a monologue, an improv, a scene with one or more people (written or improvised), an interview, a music video, whatever. In the creation of characters, again, I’m leaving it wide open (I may even try an impression or two). There are only three major rules:

1. I am never allowed to half-ass it.
2. I have to fully commit to my choices.
3. I have to do it every week.

Ratings

Style 3

There is a mixed bag of comic and dramatic characters here. The upside is that you’re never bored, you can tell that Brent has significant range and he wants to show that off to you. The downside is that some of the characters drag a little. When I say things like “drag” I usually mean that they are boring, but in this case I simply mean that if you view 4 or 5 videos in a row each one will be dancing to the beat of its own drum. If you are used to a more consistent pacing, this might throw you off. (Pacing 4)

Storytelling 4

Polish 3.5

Each sketch comes in at under ten minutes and each one moves at a pretty fast clip. If anything, you’ll wish that he had more time to expand on some of the funnier characters but that’s only until you fall in love with the next one. (Watchability 4.5)

50 characters, 50 weeks and all of them incredibly different. This is a ride and hands over fist better than most of the YouTube experiments you’ll see floating around the Intertubes. (Novelty 4.5)

Overall Rating: 3.91 out of 5 stars

Greetings, my fellow computer-owning Christians — and even all you unsaved techno-trash out there who will read any blog in order to avoid doing your little job. My name is Mrs. Betty Bowers and — as you already know — I’m America’s Best Christian. While some might regard such a seemingly lofty title somewhat onerous to live up to, both piety and superiority are completely effortless to me, which is, no doubt, why I was conferred such an honor in the first place.

As an American Christian, I have devoted my life to hectoring my Invisible Savior with requests for lots of cool stuff. It’s a time-consuming hobby I call “prayer.” I lob assertive hints into passing cloud formations for better promotions, bigger cars, smaller hips, higher game scores and more luxurious luxury goods. This is all necessary because my Savior is infuriatingly forgetful and will otherwise squander attention on the much more easily satisfied so-called “needy.” When not asking for things from Jesus, I tirelessly devoted myself to wringing every last dollar out of His name that is humanly possible without risking my tax-free status, appearing without undergarments on YouTube or becoming a Catholic.

Clever use of green screen puts this a cut above most talking head shows in the genre. (Style 4)

Pacing 4

Especially when dealing with such a controversial topic, you could spend a lot of time simply ranting but Betty Bowers is really well written. Even if you hate her message, you have to respect the delivery. Well, no you don’t but it’s definitely more well produced than your average “Religion is eeevvvviiilll” style tirade. (Storytelling 3.5)

Polish 3

Some people will hate this show. Some people will find it downright insulting. These people should not watch it because all it will do is ruin their days. Like most things we label with the “controversial” tag, viewer discretion is advised. (Watchability 3.5)

The real reason I like this show so much is that they consistently maintain the “joke ratio.” They aren’t beating you over the head with so much funny that it becomes cloying but they also don’t drag things out so long you lose track of the plot.
On the strength of such international hits as “The Miracle Beer Diet”, Liv Films– founded by writer/director Jed Gillen and actress/editor Mona Gillen in the summer of 2007– has rapidly become one of the most popular producers of short, scripted entertainment in the world. Recognized for their unique brand of sexy– often politically-incorrect– comedy, Liv Films videos attract approximately 100,000 online viewers each day. With the release of their Brushing Teeth in Undies DVD in 2008, Liv Films has staked its claim as one of the very first Internet sensations to successfully transition to the mainstream.

For a sketch show that comes in at under 4 minutes in length the writing is stellar. It’s fun to watch and once you start watching you want to see more. Jed and Mona know how to play their characters and once you get sucked into their world you won’t want to leave. (Storytelling 4.5)

Five months later, this site is still about the same thing: Old Jews Telling Jokes.

The good news is we’ve got some new old Jews. Many of this season’s participants responded to our first round and contacted us. We know better than to deny an old Jew with a burning desire to joke.

I wrote before that these jokes shed a light on a culture, but they also reveal much about their tellers. Like playing the piano, telling a joke requires craft, artistry and style. Does the teller have the patience for the set-up? Can he or she remember the details that make the characters familiar? Will he or she commit to the voices and the accents and keep them consistent? Is there that innate sense of timing?

See for yourself. We weren’t disappointed. All the tellers bring their own individual talents and at least sixty years of life experience to the material.

If the first season of Old Jews Telling Jokes was “friends and family” then let us present the next concentric ring, one degree-click out on the map of Jewish geography.

It’s standup with one joke per show, if they added too much flair to it it would have lost its underlying humanity. (Style 3)

Sometimes it feels almost too short. Each episode comes in at under 2 minutes and a lot of times I was left wanting to hear more from the joke tellers. (Pacing 3.5)

Storytelling 4.5

The video is great but the sound can get really low in places. (Polish 3)

You can make it through the entire series in just about an hour, and you’ll enjoy just about every minute of it. (Watchability 4)

As high concepts go this has the right mix of anthropology and humor. I only wish they had given us a look into the lives of some of the people telling the jokes, that would have been interesting viewing indeed. Maybe on the DVD. (Novelty 4)

Barely Political is the leading political satire site on the web. Here’s some history: Barely Political launched in June 2007 with the debut video “I’ve Got a Crush on Obama” featuring Obama Girl. That quickly made us one of the most talked about and blogged about political satire sites online. Since launching, Barely Political videos have been seen over 150 million times worldwide, and featured on shows including Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show and The Colbert Report. President Barack Obama called Barely Political videos an “example of the fertile imagination of the Internet,” and he’s really important.
